Have you ever wished you could be signed in to the same site with different accounts, without going Incognito or having to use multiple browsers? Good news! You can use the Firefox Multi-Account Containers add-on to create color-coded tabs that are sandboxed.
Sure, we all have opinions on our favorite browsers. Maybe you like the simplicity and integration with your Google services and like Chrome, or its varied chromium-flavored cousins (like Brave). Or perhaps you're an Apple user that never changed your default from Safari. I'm here to tell you that you are missing out if you aren't using Firefox, especially if you're working with things like AWS accounts on the daily! Read on for some life changing browser epiphanies.
Getting Started¶
First, head to the multi-account containers add-ons page and select Add to install it.
You may also want to set your add-on preferences so that you to open your bookmarked sites in containers:
Once you have enabled the add-on, you can configure it.???+ tip "Pin it to the left" Pro Tip: I like to pin it directly to the left of my address for ease of launch/configuration.
Create Containers¶
Next you will want to select Manage Containers and configure the names and tab colors you want to use.

Example: Simultaneous AWS Account Access¶
Once this is set up you can choose to launch (or relaunch) any tab in a container! Here you can see four (4) separate sites in their respective tabs:
So if I need to do something that is restricted to my AWS Organizations
management account (shadetree-dev-root
) I can be logged in there, as well as my delegated administrator and CI/CD account, shadetree-dev-automation
, at the same time!
No role switching, no incognito mode, no separate browsers. Just color-coded and administrative efficiency

Conclusion¶
As you can see, having containers to run tabs in lets you work faster, more efficiently, and makes working in a multi-account AWS environment a little more streamlined.
Hope you have enjoyed this post, keep on the lookout for more examples of solving operational annoyances in the cloud!
Oh, and if you still want to use multiple browsers, I highly suggest OpenIn 4 for MacOS users. You can set this application as your default browser, and when you want to open a link from an email, command line output, etc. it will prompt for which browser:
